Introduction

Southern blotting is a technique in molecular biology which is used to identify a specific DNA sequence in a mix of DNA s. It transfers DNA from an agarose gel to a membrane, where the DNA can be subsequently probed for a specific sequence. It combines transfer of electrophoresis-separated DNA fragments to a filter membrane and subsequent fragment detection by probe hybridization.
